Gender Identity Disorder (GID) or Gender Dysphoria (GD)? Which is it really and what’s going on?
It’s important to note that the former implies that it is what’s wrong is in the person’s mind while the latter implies that what is wrong is in the person’s body. Once the problem is correctly identified, then and only then can one properly address it. Sadly, today people want to ignore the former and treat everyone as though it’s the latter. The result is, in the name of doing something to help, in many, if not most cases, they are actually doing more harm than good.
One way to look at it is, are we addressing a hardware or software problem? This is particularly important when the issue is about how far along someone is in their development i.e. while the software about what they will be as an adult is still being written. That’s what growing up is in effect, all about! What kind of an adult we will be is written during our “Formative” years. That’s why we call them that.
Therefore, the best way to address the issue, especially during one’s “Formative Years” is to address it as a software problem first and foremost. Changing the person’s Hardware at this stage can and arguably will do more harm than good because even though it, technically can be changed back at a later time, the proper functionality of the hardware is lost forever.
Arguably, many children who are, IMHO, incorrectly diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria are really just dealing with Gender Identity Disorder. The proof in the pudding is that the vast majority of children who are dealing with this issue, if left to deal with it themselves usually end up sorting it out correctly, meaning, as adults, they identify with the gender they were born with meaning, boys tend to have a penis and girls a vagina.
Granted, there is a small fraction of a percent of humanity that are born intersex. Google it if you don’t know what that is. But studies have conclusively shown that in the end, they usually get that worked out in their software too, just like those otherwise normal children who are afflicted with GID do even before taking the steps necessary to overhaul the hardware. But, in their defense, at least they have a legitimate reason to do so.
The really sad thing is the untold number of physically normal children who are not getting the software updates necessary to correct the problem. Instead, we’re either telling them they need a major hardware upgrade or letting them decide that for themselves when they haven’t the capacity to do so. Making matters worse is we’re NOT allowing anyone to provide the software updates. On this, we need to remember one very important thing and that is, the mind is designed for change, the body, not so much.
Lastly, for those who suffer from either GID, GD or any affliction known to mankind, there is a cure all available to everyone called Jesus. We need to remember that all of us have software that was corrupted with the fall of man in the garden. God in “His” (yeah, I assumed gender so sue me) infinite wisdom created an antivirus program that isolates the bad software and rewrites our names in the Lambs Book of Life. I’d encourage anyone, no matter what sort of “virus” they’re afflicted with to download it soon. We may not have a lot of time left in which to do it.
